Recycling Kamatchi vilaku

Opening gifts, isn't it exciting???? The excitement of presents is something indescribable. :) I have always found immense pleasure in opening gifts. :P In case, if the gift has been something you have really longed having, then it is double pleasure...

Sometime back, whenever there used to be any functions like wedding or house warming, the usual gift we used to get was crockery set. Especially cups and saucers.. :) I just cant imagine how many of them I would have received in different colours and shapes and sizes. How many such sets can one have at home???

So recycling these gifts have become the rule of the day... Boy, sometime it so happens that you land up with the same set you gifted somebody after 'it' doing its share of rounds..:P So generally these cups and saucers were being recycled some time back.

Now with the raised per-capital-income, everybody wants to raise their bar on their gifting fund. So these days, silver 'kamatchi vilaku' has taken the place of crockery sets. So now you have a house warming or a wedding, take my words, you can expect at least 5 of them for sure. Now, every house has a dozen of them in stock. Of course all gifted.

Even I have close to a dozen in my stock. At times, I wonder what will I do with so many of them????

Maybe, I can use them during the karthigai deepam time...

These days, having received quite a number of these, I can even find with these vilaku inside the gift wrapping and without opening them. So it directly goes to my safe.

Somehow, I prefer gifting what they would need and use. If you are unsure, the best thing is gift cash and let them buy whatever they would need. Don't you think it would be a wise thing to do?

Recently, I spoke to my uncle, who was telling me about a very strange concept. He had been invited for a wedding. The email which had the invitation, also had a link. The link mentioned "Please do not bring any gift. If you insist then please give me what I need." It also had a list of articles mentioned. On selecting the one which you intend to gift them, it was removed from the list.

I found it funny and shocking yet it was new and somehow met the purpose. At least, it would be useful rather than being inside a safe and being recycled.

If you do not know the person you are gifting too well then I would say cash works best. The worsts are the ones you get for your wedding. 10 sets of glasses, none that matches your tastes or some age old casserole which is most probably a recycled one. Com'on who gives casserole these days :-0
Nice read..:-)
